Pole position on our must-watch list
F1 movie premiere

The drivers of Formula One have taken to the red carpet alongside the cast of the new F1 movie for the film’s premiere in New York City.

Far from the excitement of the grid, but arguably more glamorous, the star-studded affair marks the final countdown to the official release of the movie.

At New York City’s famed Radio City Music Hall, drivers Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris and George Russell joined stars of the film, Brad Pitt (plus, his girlfriend Ines de Ramon) and Damson Idris.

F1 Movie Release Date Australia

While the F1 movie was produced by Apple Original Films, it will be released in cinemas and iMAX first. In Australia, F1 will premiere on June 26th.

There’s no word yet on when the film will presumably drop on Apple TV.

What Is The F1 Movie About?

F1 the movie has been described as “a landmark for the sport and cinema” due to the unconventional way in which it was filmed.

In collaboration with the motor sport, Apple filmed scenes in “real-time during Grands Prix around the world and involving the F1 community, including all 10 teams, the drivers, the FIA and race promoters.”

So, we can (hopefully) expect to see all our favourite drivers from the 2023 and 2024 season in the film in some capacity. Already, we’ve seen behind-the-scenes photos of Pitt filming alongside Carlos Seinz, Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen.

As for the F1 film plot, the official logline reads: “Dubbed ‘the greatest that never was,’ Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was FORMULA 1’s most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career.

“Thirty years later, he’s a nomadic racer-for-hire when he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling FORMULA 1 team that is on the verge of collapse.”

Pitt joins rising star Damson Idris, who plays his “hotshot rookie” teammate and fiercest competition at the fictional 11th team on grid, APXGP.
