There’s just two episodes left of The Summer I Turned Pretty’s final season and the fans (it’s me, I’m the fan) are starting to panic.
It’s not just because Belly and Conrad (the man we all know she’s meant to be with) are literally a world apart, but because an alarming new theory has begun circulating online.
Some, if not many, viewers have become convinced that creator Jenny Han plans to rip our hearts out by basically killing our beloved Connie off by the finale’s end.
Let me explain…
Is Conrad Sick In The Summer I Turned Pretty?
Theories that Conrad may be sick with some form of terminal illness originated where all great fan theories are born: on TikTok.
There are a number of potential clues that have led us here, the first being Conrad talking about pain in hands through the season as well as a brief mention of his family’s history of heart disease.
Further to this, TikTok user @KristenTrout talks about how often we see Conrad grabbing his chest as though it hurts and injuring himself (possibly a sign of poor motor function). She suggests he could learn he has a heart condition before the season’s end.
Most alarming has been the key quote in from the season three trailer where Belly says, ““life’s too short to not spend it with the person that you love.”
It’s the kind of thing you say when someone you love has a serious scare, and as terrifying as Steven’s car crash was, I Ijust don’t think it’s related to that.
Han has already spoken widely about the fact the show will end differently to the books, so any finale twists are plausible at this point.
Maybe I’m an optimist but it seems more likely that Conrad will have a health scare that will bring him and Belly back together once and for all, but he will survive.
We’ll have to wait and see when the final two episodes come out over the next week.
