School is officially back in session for fans of the college romance genre, with the Netflix adaptation of My Oxford Year set to take over our streaming algorithms (and hearts) imminently. And after waiting patiently for the next campus hit to drop in Australia, we finally have the exact release time to bookmark.
The movie is based on the Julia Whelan novel of the same name, and follows the US-born Anna De La Vega, played by Sofia Carson, as she embarks on an adventure of a lifetime at Oxford University.
Making it into the coveted graduate program was all part of the plan for the ambitious Anna, whose own course is set with a high-paying job awaiting her back in the states upon completion. That is, however, until she meets her poetry professor Jamie Davenport, played by prince charming himself, Corey Mylchreest of Queen Charlotte fame.
Naturally, sparks fly and romantic chaos ensues, throwing Anna’s meticulously planned path into disarray. Which, if you ask us, sounds like the exact kind of enemies-to-lovers pipeline we’d like to explore.

What Time Does My Oxford Year Movie Come Out In Australia?
Hitting your Netflix library on Friday August 1, viewers will be able to stream My Oxford Year from 5pm AEST, making it the perfect end-of-week treat.
Coinciding with the streamer’s international release schedule, the movie will kick off the stellar lineup of new shows and film’s set to drop this August.
Where Can I Watch My Oxford Year In Australia?
As a native Netflix offering, My Oxford Year will be available to stream on the platform here from the beginning of August.
But, as with other titles, if you don’t have a Netflix subscription, the film will be able to be purchased from other platforms such as Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV+.
Who Stars In The My Oxford Year Movie?
The two romantic leads – Jamie and Anna – are played by Netflix favourites Corey Mylchreest and Sofia Carson.
Known for his standout performance in Queen Charlotte and most recently, The Sandman, Mylchreest was drawn to the script from the very first read. “You can expect some laughs, a lot of love, maybe some sadness, a couple of surprises along the way, but [you can expect] to meet two really lovely, very human characters and all of their amazing friends and family,” he told Tudum.
His casting got the instant tick of approval from his co-star Carson, who’s been singing his praise in the lead up to the film’s release. “I watched Queen Charlotte in awe of Corey. He’s an extraordinary force of an actor,” she revealed in an interview with Tudum.
“When it came time to cast Jamie, I always knew it would be Corey. As soon as he walked into the room for our chemistry read in London, Anna and Jamie came to life. Instantly. Corey was a true partner in this experience.”
Carson, whose own portfolio reads like a Netflix hit list with titles like Purple Hearts, Carry-On and The Life List, plays the type-A Anna to a T – and also executive produces the movie – her second time doing so.
Starring alongside Carson and Mylchreest, the film also features performances from: Dougray Scott (Crime, Enigma), Catherine McCormack (Braveheart, Spy Game), Harry Trevaldwyn (How To Train Your Dragon, Ten Percent), Esmé Kingdom (Fallen), Nikhil Parmar (Gran Turismo, The Rig), Poppy Gilbert (Stay Close, The Catch), and Hugh Coles (Baby Reindeer, Atlanta).
