A release date has finally been announced for Netflix’s long-awaited adaptation of Emily Henry’s best-selling novel, People We Meet On Vacation.
To celebrate the news, Netflix released a taster of what’s to come by way of a teaser featuring the voices of actors Emily Bader and Tom Blyth, cast as Poppy and Alex respectively.
Scored over a calming beachy backdrop, Bader’s Poppy is heard asking “Where does Alex Nilsen stand on travel? Love or hate?”
“I mean, I’ve never really travelled anywhere. But this morning I saw this beautiful sunrise over this place that I’d never been before and I wouldn’t have if everything had gone according to plan. So love. I’m thinking love,” Blyth’s Alex responds.
And if that’s not a perfect representation of what fans love about the author’s deliciously frothy fiction, then we don’t know what is.
In light of the welcome news, we’ve compiled everything you need to know about the upcoming People We Meet On Vacation film, including cast, plot and the all-important release date.
When Will The People We Meet On Vacation Film Be Released?
Netflix has confirmed a summer release date for Emily Henry’s first book-to-screen adaptation – and what could be more fitting?
As per the streamer, the rom-com will be available for our viewing pleasure from January 9, 2026.
What Is People We Meet On Vacation About?

Based on the 2021 novel of the same name by Emily Henry, People We Meet On Vacation traces the long-standing friendship between Polly and Alex.
Meeting during their college years at the University of Chicago, the two friends strike up an unlikely friendship despite their polar opposite personalities: Alex being the rule-following routine focus to Poppy’s free-spirited spontaneity. But you know what they say about opposites..
As a way to maintain their friendship after graduation, the friends hatch a plan to reunite each year at a holiday destination neither have been to before. Spurred on by Poppy’s insatiable wanderlust and travel blogger aspirations, Alex agrees, and so a decade of summers spent coming back together for a week, begins.
However, after an incident on one such trip, a communication breakdown threatens to unravel the dynamic they’ve worked so hard to create (or repress). Years of silence follow, until Poppy convinces Alex to meet her for one last jaunt in Croatia.
In case it’s not obvious, what ensues is a friends-to-lovers trope that ticks all the boxes, and then some, for rom-com lovers of all ages.
Who Is In The Film Adaption?
Announced earlier this year, Tom Bylth (The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes) is set to star as Alex Nielsen, while Emily Bader (star of the best show to ever get cancelled – My Lady Jane) will play co-lead Poppy Wright.
But the stacked cast list doesn’t end there. Joining the two leads is a roll call of notable names such as Sarah Catherine Hook (fresh off The White Lotus boat), Emily In Paris heartthrob Lucien Laviscount, Succession’s Alan Ruck and Jameela Jamil – just to name a few.
While the rest of the role allocations are still being kept under wraps, here’s where the cast announcements stand so far.
- Tom Blyth as Alex
- Emily Bader as Poppy
- Sarah Catherine-Hook
- Jameela Jamil
- Lucien Laviscount
- Lukas Gage
- Alan Ruck
- Molly Shannon
- Tommy Do
- Alice Lee
- Miles Heizer
“I watched their chemistry read four times in 12 hours and I loved it more every single time,” Emily Henry told Tudum of Blyth and Bader’s casting. “The very first time I was laughing out loud, and I got so emotional by the end.”
