Rocked to our core

If the twisted endings of season one and season two, part two taught us anything, it’s that we should expect the unexpected from Wednesday. And, they certainly saved the most unexpected reveal yet for their press trip to Australia, where they announced one beloved character was about to be resurrected: Larissa Weems.

Killed off in the season one finale, Weems who is portrayed by the inimitable Gwendoline Christie, was presumed very much dead, not just by fans but also the show’s creators who had assured us this very incident was out of the question. We should have known better than to believe them.

During Netflix Outcast Assembly, held on August 14 in Sydney, Christie made a surprise and grand enrance, confirming her character would be returning for Wednesday season two, part two.

Is Gwendoline Christie In Wednesday Season Two?

Yes! For Part two of the second season, Christie will reprise her role of principal Weems.

Presumed very much dead, not just by fans but also the show’s creators who had assured us this very incident was out of the question.

“Did you really think Nevermore would let me go so easily? I was never gone, you just stopped looking,” Christie said from the darkness before the large moon lifted and she walked out from the smoke.

Was there anything she could share about her unexpected return from the dead?

“This season you’ll see a different spectrum of Larissa Weems suffering,” Christie teased.

What Happened To Larissa Weems?

In Wednesday’s nail-biting season one finale, Nevermore Academy’s formidable—and fabulously poised—principal Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christie) meets a tragic end. While shapeshifting to outsmart Marilyn Thornhill (a.k.a. Laurel Gates) and expose her sinister plan, Weems is fatally injected with nightshade poison. The show’s creators have confirmed her death is permanent, leaving fans reeling and the halls of Nevermore without their most commanding presence—a twist that cemented the series’ dark, anything-can-happen edge.

As though a nail in the character’s coffin (or so we thought), show co-creator Miles Millar told TUDUM: ““Hopefully Weems’ death at the end of the season will take people by surprise and they’ll be as moved as Wednesday is by her loss.”

He added in another interview he confirmed Weems was “definitely dead”, telling TV Guide: “We like the idea that people die in this world, that there are real sacrifices and there’s loss — and that Wednesday has to react to that.… Never say never, but at this point, she’s definitely dead.”
