Anne Hathaway Will Reportedly Star In A COVID-19 Rom-Com-Heist Film

The news was not welcomed warmly by Twitter

We’re still a long way from the end of the global pandemic, but it’s already inspiring Hollywood’s next big blockbusters. Steven Knight, the mastermind behind Peaky Blinders, is preparing to portray the global pandemic on-screen with a rom-com-heist project called Lockdown.

Director Doug Liman of action features like Mr. & Mrs. Smith and The Bourne Identity, is reportedly on board the upcoming film, which will take place against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, Variety reports. Further plot details have yet to be disclosed, but Deadline adds that filming could start in London as soon as the end of September.

Anne Hathaway is also in talks to appear, according to both publications.

The news was not taken well by Twitter, where users sparked concern over the ill timing of the announcement. Currently, the United States has suffered more than six million coronavirus cases and more than 190,000 COVID-19-related deaths. Critics said it feels too soon and inappropriate to turn the pandemic into a lighthearted or comedic form of entertainment.
