Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are reuniting for a Practical Magic sequel and we couldn’t be more excited. That was, until the latest casting update filled our feeds with an added dose of magic by way of more sparkling inclusions.
Joining the previously announced addition of Joey King, will be Game Of Thrones alum Maisie Williams. But that’s not all we have to look forward to, with the cauldron conspiring to bring back everyone’s favourite eccentric aunts – Jet and Franny – rounding out the wickedly good lineup.
Yes, that means a whole new storyline – and plenty of midnight margaritas – for Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing to sink their teeth into.
In a statement shared about the latest casting updates, the Practical Magic filmmaking team said, “Twenty-five years ago, Sally, Gillian, Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny flew off the pages of Alice Hoffman’s beloved novel and into theaters around the world, and we are thrilled to bring the Owens family back to the big screen with Joey, Lee, Maisie, Solly and Xolo joining the next chapter in our story. The enduring affection for these characters has been our inspiration to deliver the next installment in the Owens’ story to new fans, and those who’ve been with us since the beginning.”
In the 1998 cult film, Bullock and Kidman play sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, two young witches, who are tasked with banishing a curse that prevents them from finding love.
The sequel, Practical Magic 2, was first announced by Warner Bros on Instagram last year, when they posted a series of videos with the caption, “It’s official! Practical Magic 2 is in development and coming soon.”
Now, we finally have more detail, as a teaser trailer featuring Kidman’s recognisable voice, cast its spell.
Below, everything we know about the film’s second instalment.
First Look At Practical Magic 2
Nicole Kidman has shared a sneaky behind-the-scenes look, confirming filming has officially begun for the sequel.
When Will Practical Magic 2 Be Released?
Lucky for the world’s witches who’ve been waiting with baited breath for their favourite sorceresses to cast their spell over our hearts once more, the Practical Magic sequel is on the horizon.
In a tantalisingly simple video released on May 7, 2025, Kidman’s character utters “Tooth of wolf and morning dew, something old and something new. Let the spell begin to mix,” before adding: “September 18 2026.”
Who Will Star In Practical Magic 2?

Variety reported early on that Kidman and Bullock will be reprising their roles as Sally and Gillian Owens, which means we’re going to be catching up with the sisters in a different phase of life.
Most recently, news that actress Zoey King is officially in to play Bullock’s character’s daughter has been the talk of the town, with more cast updates bubbling away in the background.
Now we have confirmation that Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing are returning to reprise their roles as Aunt Jet and Aunt Fanny, the eccentric matriarchs of the Sally/Gillian household, the film feels more complete than ever. But that’s not where the stellar cast list ends.
Rounding out the lineup, we have Maisie Williams, Lee Pace (Foundation), Xolo Mariduena, and Solly McLeod, and while character details remain tight lipped, we can only imagine the plots bubbling away in the writer’s room right now.
After all, with scriptwriter Akiva Goldsman, who adapted author Alice Hoffman’s original novel, at the helm, there’s no doubt the Practical Magic 2 film is a future classic in the making.
And, in news that hints towards the beloved sequel getting the treatment it deserves, the film’s original producer, Denise Di Novi, has also confirmed she’ll be part of production, telling People magazine that she intends to “honour” the original.

“I think the big mistake people make with sequels is when they kind of want to reinvent the wheel and be totally original and surprise people that it’s different or whatever,” said Di Novi at the time.
“There’s a joyousness to that movie, and there’s such beautiful themes of sisterhood and family and acceptance, tolerance, love,” Di Novi added. “Just the title that Alice Hoffman, the amazing author, thought of that’s now become part of the vernacular of Practical Magic is that there’s magic in daily life, in love, in family, in sisterhood. It’s magical, and we all have our gifts, and women have very particular and specific gifts. We really want to honour all of that.”
What Is The Plot Of Practical Magic Two?

While not much is known about the exact plot of the upcoming Practical Magic sequel, we do know that the film will adapt Hoffman’s The Book of Magic.
The novel is the fourth in the book series and is also the follow-up instalment to the novel adapted for the original film.
