Over the weekend, it was reported that Riverdale stars Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse had ended their relationship after two years of dating. Now it’s been revealed that the on-screen couple actually decided to call it quits “earlier in the [US] summer” and that the split was a “very messy breakup,” however, now that they’re back to filming their Netflix series, they’re on much better terms.
E! News reports that prior to heading back to work, the pair had been “intentionally keeping their distance from the other,” however, now a reconcilliation isn’t off the cards. “Right now, it’s unclear where things stand, but it seems [like] they could be heading back in the direction of getting together,” a source told the publication.
But why did they split in the first place? People is reporting that friends didn’t think the couple would last long-term due to personality and lifestyle clashes. “Their friends didn’t really expect them to last in the long-run,” a source told the outlet.
“At the end of the day, their personalities are very different and their lifestyles often clashed,” they continued. “Things have felt super heavy in the relationship for a while, and it got to be too much. They’re both very professional though and trying to be as amicable and friendly as possible.”
While neither Cole or Lili have commented on the recent reports, we wouldn’t hold your breath. Both actors have previously said they want to keep their love lives private and away from the spotlight as much as possible. ”I’m not okay talking about my relationship,” Reinhart told Harper’s Bazaar last year. “I’m not going to tell you my love story. That’s just not appropriate right now.”
“I am one of those guys that’s never ever going to talk about my private life with the public sphere,” Cole told ELLE.com in April 2017. I mean people can talk about the Jughead as much as they want but when it comes to the personal relationships, I have spent much of my life separating work and play so I will continue to do so.”
Fingers crossed that Betty and Jughead’s on-screen romance will remind these two just how cute they are together.
