Lily Allen Responds To Liam Neeson’s Racist Comments

In the best way possible

Lily Allen isn’t afraid to tell it how it is. And that’s exactly what she did last night during her second Sydney show on her No Shame tour.

After a killer set, Allen finished the gig with her anthem “F You” from her second album It’s Not Me, It’s You. Let me remind you of the lyrics… “Fuck you (fuck you). Fuck you very, very much. ‘Cause we hate what you do and we hate your whole crew so, please don’t stay in touch.”

Allen introduced the song by saying, “Normally I dedicate this song to Donald Trump, but tonight I’m dedicating it to Liam Neeson, the racist pig.” [She may or may not have said “pig,” it was hard to hear over the rapturous cheering].

After applauding the intro, the crowd sang along wholeheartedly to the lyrics: “You’re just some racist who can’t tie my laces. Your point of view is medieval.”

Allen’s dedication to Neeson came after he shared an anecdote admitting he wanted to kill a black person 40 years ago. The Taken star recalled the shocking incident in an interview with The Independent.

“I remembered an incident nearly 40 years ago when a very dear friend of mine was brutally raped and I was out of the country and when I came back she told me about this,” he said. “I had never felt this feeling before, which was a primal urge to lash out. I asked her did she know the person, and his race. She said he was a black man. I went out into ‘black areas’ in the city looking to be set upon so I could unleash physical violence and I did it four or five times.”

Appearing on Good Morning America, Neeson didn’t apologise for his comments, telling the host, “I’m not a racist. I was brought up in Northern Ireland. The Troubles. The 60s, 70s and 80s. There was a war going on in the north of Ireland. I had acquaintances who were involved in the Troubles, the bigotry. One Catholic would be killed, the next day a Protestant would be killed… I grew up surrounded by that.”

Allen later posted an Instagram Story saying, “I don’t believe Liam Neeson’s racist anecdote, which makes it even more disgusting. I don’t know a woman who hasn’t been harassed and I have NEVER heard of an instance where a man has actually gone out to defend her honor. It just doesn’t happen.”

Allen isn’t the only star to publicly call out Neeson.

British TV presenter Piers Morgan slammed him on Twitter, saying, “How can anyone defend Liam Neeson? He’s admitted to murderous racism. Would we forgive him if he’d actually KILLED a random black man during his week-long, cosh-armed street hunt?”

And American producer Tariq Nasheed wrote, “If a Black actor said he wanted to get revenge on random white people because of the injustices done by people who believe in white supremacy, he would be labeled a Black Identity Extremists and he would be placed on every FBI watch list. He would not be praised like Liam Neeson.”

Allen really summed it up when she sang, “Fuck you (fuck you). Fuck you very, very much. ‘Cause your words don’t translate and it’s getting quite late so, please don’t stay in touch.”
