While Lily-Rose Depp admits that ice skating is not her strongest talent, the young Franco-American actress had a ball donning ice skates and imagining herself as the lead role in 2005 film Ice Princess for her latest campaign with Chanel.
For those not already in the know, Chanel have just launched their new The Coco Neige Collection for 2023/24. The Coco Neige collection is the maison’s line designed for winter sports and après-ski, which has had a long and illustrious line of celebrities fronting the designer campaigns, from Margot Robbie to BLACKPINK’s Jennie.
It only made sense that Chanel ambassador Lily-Rose Depp would step up for the 2023/24 annual launch, wearing a series of highly sophisticated and technical outfits designed to dance up a storm, whether that be on the ski slope or the ice rink.
This year’s line has a more youthful, feminine edge, with the elegance and style of talented ice skaters echoed in the clothing.
Photographed by Swedish photographer Mikael Jansson, Depp posed in a tight-fitting gold lamé jumpsuit, a technical satin ski-suit with a shearling hood as well as a printed velvet outfit.
“The best part of the shoot was getting to explore the collection in such a fun space and getting on the skates. Even if I’m not the best ice skater in the world, it was really fun,” she said.
Of course, with any creative endeavour, you need to find your inspiration. For Depp, it was her memories of ice-skating films that brought layers of purpose to the campaign.
“When I heard that we were going to be shooting at an ice-skating rink, I couldn’t help but think of Ice Princess, this movie I used to watch all the time when I was a little girl and I’d think, I want to be an ice skater too! I never quite pursued the dream, but I loved that movie,” she admitted.
It seems that Depp, a talented actress as well as leading model, brought a ‘character’ into the shoot with her.
The new collection also comes with an eyewear range, that harks back to the spirit of the 2000s. We see the return of Chanel’s iconic rhinestoned double C’s, glittered acetate and a pink, black and silver palette that we simply cannot get enough of.
Depp couldn’t help but feel a kindred connection with the new Coco Neige line.
“I love how Virginie Viard always reinvents the codes of Chanel but in different ways,” Lily-Rose Depp explained.
“Like the chain pattern on my sweater or a really cute little skirt that has a gold chain motif reminiscent of the jewelled belts and the costume jewellery. I love the way we get so attached to these patterns and we associate them with Chanel, they’re so timeless and iconic.”
The Chanel Coco Neige 2023/24 collection is available now in the Chanel Sydney, Chadstone Flinders Lane and Perth Boutiques.
