Coveting Coral: The It-Girl Hair Colour of 2019

Move over, millennial pink

Pantone has revealed the official colour of 2019 – Living Coloral – a mood-boosting shade that is “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.”

So what’s the best way to inject a dose of coral into your beauty game?

Cue the hottest hair colour trend of summer: Coral hues. Inspired by the colour of 2019 – a fresh take on pink and lavender tresses we’ve seen celebrities such as Julia Robetrs, Hailey Baldwin, Behati Prinsloo and Lucy Hale.

Aveda Global Artistic Director, Hair Colour, Ian Michael Black describes Living Coral as “bright, yet quietly gentle colour, which translates beautifully to hair.”

“It’s a lovely copper with a pink undertone that is warm, inviting and light-hearted,” the international hair colourist adds.

The copper-based hue is a warm colour that looks amazing against cool complexions. Basically, “those that can take lighter colours and those with not too much pink tones in their skin.”

Ian, who worked with Aveda and its fully customizable hair colour system to create the surprisingly wearable look, shared his genius hack to gage whether coral will compliment your skin tone. “A tip to see if a colour will suit you is to pull your hair back in a ponytail, and hold something of your desired colour just above your eyebrows.”

To keep your tresses in optimal health and prolong the life of your colour, Michael Black recommends using a  colour safe shampoo like Aveda Colour Conserve or if your hair has been lightened then try, Aveda Damage Remedy Shampoo. Healthy hair is shiny hair so treat your locks with a restorative product as Aveda Damage Remedy conditioner. What’s more? Ian warns against environmental damage incurred from the Australian sun, instructing clients to always use a sunscreen for your hair like Aveda Hair Veil.
