It’s often been claimed that Married At First Sight producers and experts are far more concerned with drama and television ratings than love, and the latest wedding between Mishel Meshes and Steven Burley seems to prove just that.

Mishel, 48, who is a teacher from Brisbane, is described by “expert” Mel Schilling as “emotional and anxious” because of the heartache she has endured down through the years.
She admits she has been cheated on in seven out of eight past relationships, including divorcing her husband 15 years ago because of his philandering ways.
“I have lost trust in men,” she says. “Every partner I’ve had has cheated on me … I think I must be a dud.”
Listing her needs and wants in a relationship, Mishel makes it clear numerous times that she does not want a womanizer … cue Steven Burley (who seems an awful lot like last year’s Mike Gunner).
Steve, 51, is a British-born barber shop owner and father-of-one, who says he “usually goes for younger women”.
On first impressions, the pair really hit it off with Steve calming a very nervous and panicked Mishel when they first meet.
“Don’t be nervous, I’ll look after you,” he tells from the top of the altar as he holds her hands in his.
“I couldn’t have asked for more of a gentleman,” Mishel says. “I think this will all work out, he’s really nice. I really like him.”
But during a chat at the reception with Mishel’s “overprotective” daughter Eva, 18, and son Sam, 20, Steve drops the bombshell that he has been unfaithful in the past.
“I have cheated on someone before,” Steve says. “[It was] 19 or 18 years ago.”
“It was a mistake, I wasn’t proud of it and it’ll never happen again.”
Playing right into producers’ hands, Eva tells her mother, who goes into panic mode.
“Once a cheater, always a cheater … I don’t want someone with that kind of history,” Mishel says.
She calls for a tequila to calm her nerves (a girl after our own hearts) and when she gets refused by bar staff, she heads outside for a durry with her sister and son, so she can mull it all over.
“Get me out of here, this is disgusting. This is deja vu,” she says.
No MAFS wedding is complete without a calamity of some sort, and Steve knows it’s his duty to go and put it right.
“What I did 17 years ago made me a lowlife and I’ve lived with it since,” he said. “It was a big, big, big, massive mistake … You are my bride and to see you upset, upsets me.”
“It’s a real trigger for me,” Mishel says.
“I swear to God I won’t be cheating on you,” he says.
They go to bed together with smiles on their faces, with Mishel saying she was “very happy” she went through with the wedding.
But the good times don’t last for long if the preview of the pair fighting on the ski slopes while on honeymoon is anything to go by.
Well, at least the producers will be happy!
