Redemption Arcs And A Dramatic Walkout: The Very Best Reactions To The ‘MAFS’ Reunion

Also ICYMI, Jo is an empowerment queen!

And just like that, the Married At First Sight Grand Reunion is over! It was a night to remember, taking a trip down memory lane through some of the most talked-about and controversial love stories to have ever unfolded on Channel Nine’s social experiment over its explosive five seasons.

From Nasser Sultan still unwilling to apologies for the hurtful words he has said on social media, to Dean Wells and Tracey Jewel admitting they’ve since become good friends following the dramatic ending to their relationship following the TV groom’s affair with former contestant Davina Rankin, it was certainly as drama-filled as one could expect from a MAFS event, complete with experts Mel Schilling and John Aiken guiding us along.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a true MAFS reunion without a dramatic walkout, and this year’s is courtesy of Cyrell who continued her feud with Jess before deciding to walk out for good.

Below, the best Twitter reactions to part two of the Married At First Sight Grand Reunion.

Australia Hath Spoken, Jo Is The Nation’s Sweetheart

Tonight, one thing was confirmed: Foxy JoJo is the series’ most-loved bride of all time.

The bubbly TV bride was paired with Sean on the social experiment’s fifth season—who, as we were reminded in the recap—was less than impressed from the moment she walked down the aisle.

Boy, do we hope he’s sorry for that decision right now.

How About We Stop Glorifying Toxic Relationships On National Television?

Seriously! How are John and Mel still glorifying a relationship that was riddled with manipulation?

Despite the redemption edit that Mike got tonight, many viewers couldn’t help but remember just how controversial his actions were at the time.

Mike’s stint on MAFS will arguably remain one of the most blatant and outright displays of toxic masculinity displayed on national television.

Throughout his time on the social experiment, Mike continually gaslit wife Heidi, shamed her for trying to emotionally open up to him about her past as a foster child with the now-infamous, “I’m not your therapist, sweetheart” line, to downright defending a man who had cheated on his wife. Then who could forget Mike’s claims that women, biologically, don’t “cope under pressure.”

To finish it off, when asked by the experts what he’d do if he saw Heidi, Mike admitted he’d “kiss her”, despite just seconds before saying he was no in a committed relationship.

*SIGH*

Jess vs. Cyrell, Part-Two

Jess starts by telling the experts she was “embarrassed” by her past behaviour on the series, but Cyrell asserts that “the old Jess is the new Jess.”

The pair continue the same argument about what they have said about each other in the past, and when Jess tried to present a sincere, mature apology in the hopes of moving forward, Cyrell declares she’s done.

“That’s me bouncing,” she tells the group while getting up and storming out of the room.

It was mixed emotions on Twitter, and it seems this one feud might just live on a little while longer.
