You might think TV land has run out of amazing Margaret Atwood novels to adapt into television gold (hello The Handmaid’s Tale and Alias Grace).
But think again.
Deadline has announced that Atwood’s best-selling MaddAddam trilogy has been acquired by Paramount Television and Anonymous Content and will be developed into a new series.
The dystopian trilogy—made up of Oryx and Crake, The Year of the Flood, and MaddAddam—follows a group of survivors after a global pandemic, told through multiple perspectives.
For years HBO planned to adapt the novels to television with Darren Aronofsky at the helm, but it has now fallen to a new team of creatives.
“Margaret Atwood’s unique and singular literary voice speaks to the greater issues facing our current climate and resonates with fans worldwide; the MaddAddam trilogy is no exception,” Amy Powell, President of Paramount TV said of the announcement.
“These stories are perfectly suited for portrayal on television and we are thrilled to once again bring a literary masterpiece to life with our partners at Anonymous Content, Angus Wall and Rock Paper Scissors Entertainment.”
If it’s even a fifth as good as The Handmaid’s Tale, we’ll be in for a real treat.
