Mariah Carey Speaks Out About Ellen DeGeneres Interview That Made Her ‘Extremely Uncomfortable’

"I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath"

Over the last few months, there has been an onslaught of accusations against talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres, from past employees to celebrities themselves.

And the latest famous face to come forward with their own unpleasant story, is Mariah Carey.

Speaking to Vulture ahead of the release of her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the musician opened up about a recently resurfaced interview on The Ellen Show from 2008, featuring the DeGeneres challenging Carey to drink a glass of champagne in an attempt to confirm rumours that she was pregnant.

In the video, the “All I Want For Christmas” singer managed to avoid telling the truth by taking a small sip of the drink, to which DeGeneres still declared: “You’re pregnant!”

“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say,” Carey revealed.

“And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath. I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage. I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment.”

In the months following her interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Carey suffered a miscarriage. Carey opened up to the publication, saying that there is “an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented.”

“But what am I supposed to do? It’s like, [sings] ‘What are you going to do?’”

Carey and her former husband Nick Cannon are now the parents to twins, Monroe and Moroccan, born in 2011.
