Supporting characters Ivan and Aleks were finally welcomed into the fold and given their own episode on Wednesday night, but given what went down, they probably wished they remained on the ether.
It all kicked off when Aleks revealed to the other contestants that she had friendzoned Ivan, which took everyone by surprise, including Ivan, as they were one of the strongest couples.
“He’s an amazing person, but he’s not my person,” Aleks said.
“I am confused, we were in a really good place,” Ivan said.
Aleks, 26, who comes from a very conservative Serbian family, has refused to discuss her sex life with Ivan, 30, during the Nine experiment, which has irked the others as they feel like they have “put everything on the table”.
Of course, Michael being Michael wanted to get involved in the drama and claimed that Aleks told him she had slept with Ivan. Stacey and Josh also claimed that Aleks told them the same.
“She can’t keep lying now,” Stacey said, clearly relishing the fact that someone else was going through the ringer a week after she did.
“I believe Aleks is being reserved, she has kept secrets and it’s time to know the truth,” Michael said.
“I have never heard so much crap in my life,” Michael said to Aleks as she discussed falling out of love with Ivan. “When I was going through my struggles [who can forget old mate Hayley and toothbrush-gate?], I had to air them all out … Like you weren’t intimate with Ivan.”
“No, I wasn’t intimate with him,” Aleks said.
“Yesterday, you told me you were,” Michael claimed.
“We shared a pash,” Aleks said. “I haven’t slept with Ivan.”
“I have heard from both of you guys that you did,” Josh said.
“So now you are lying to both of is,” Michael said. “I get that you come from a very strict family, but you didn’t get dropped off by the stork, sex is a normal thing.”
But Michael wasn’t finished stirring the pot. After Aleks fled the dinner table in tears, the refrigerator company director told the rest of the contestants that she had been dating another Serbian man behind Ivan’s back.
Mishel said that she and Aleks had attended a Serbian music night the week before, where Aleks met a guy who was “super hot” and drove a rented Ferrari.
“I knew she was out with men, but I didn’t know she was dating,” Connie said.
When Aleks returned to he table, she claimed that Michael was “lying”. She said that she was out with a female friend and they were joined by that friend’s friend who was the 50-year-old restaurant owner.
“You make up so much stuff, you just want to create drama for every other couple every other week,” Aleks shouted at Michael.
But that wasn’t the end of the twists in the tale.
Josh and Michael then claimed that Ivan had called them prior to the dinner party and asked them to bring up him and Aleks having sex. (WHAT?!?)
Josh explained: “Ivan rang us saying, ‘this chick has done a 180, she has friendzoned me, this is bullsh*t. She is saying. There is no passion but in reality there has been passion. We have been rooting like rabbits for weeks. If I bring it up, will you have my back?'”
“I feel like I have been used,” Josh said.
“Did you not tell me and Josh to bring it up?” Michael asked Ivan.
“No, no,” Ivan said.
“I didn’t say that Aleks,” Ivan tried with Aleks.
The revelations left everyone shocked and confused, perhaps Lizzie said it best: “Ivan is the best con-artist I have ever met.”
