Getting cheated on is never a welcome experience, but being cheated on and discovering so via a viral public Facebook post? Arguably an even less welcome experience.
This week, a Texan police chief has made global headlines after a photo uploaded to the social media platform "exposed" his alleged affairs, when multiple mutual friends of the man's wife made the connection—and the aftermath has since been described by the New York Postas a "social media frenzy".
It all began when Jason Collier, a 41-year-old chief of the Stinnett Police Department, uploaded a since-deleted Facebook post in celebration of his anniversary with his wife, Opal.
One of Collier's alleged girlfriends, Cecily, was none too pleased with the gushing post, outing Collier for having not one, not two, but three mistresses, writing an exposing post alongside loved-up images of the pair—while also tagging the city's official Facebook page.
“Chief Jason Collier is living a double/triple life,” Cecily wrote, per the NY Post. “I was his girlfriend until yesterday.”
“He lied to me and presented me with fake annulment documents when I found out he was married. I also found out about a 2nd girlfriend, Kristi, last night. He has lied to us, our children, and asked us both to marry him.”
It only gets more wild from there.
Kristi, the other alleged partner of the police chief, reportedly saw the photos and commented to say she had been engaged to the police officer since December,The Sun reports.
Cecily went a step further and shared a screenshot of what's believed to be Collier's dating profile, which allegedly led to more women coming forward who had similar experiences of meeting him on dating apps.
On January 27, the City of Stinnett placed Collier on administrative leave pending an investigation, and on January 29, the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that he had been arrested for tampering with government documents, according to News 4 San Antonio.
Collier has yet to formally comment on the accusations made against him, but the online "frenzy" has sparked countless memes and Facebook groups dedicated to the absurd story.
