There’s A Strong Chance That You’re Applying Mascara Incorrectly

It's all in the angle of your gaze

When it comes to everyday make-up application, there’s one simple rule to live by: less is more. There’s only one important exception: mascara.

The super lash trend is here to stay. In the quest for achieving beautiful, glossy lashes we’re always on the lookout for the perfect mascara. One that plays nicely with our natural lashes yet still creates definition and volume – all without smudging or flaking. But, what if we told you the secret to having the lashes of your dreams is simpler than you might think?

According to a recent beauty tip that quickly went viral, it turns out we’ve been applying mascara wrong all this time. A recent interview published on Glamour about an actress who shared a beauty tip from her grandmother has described a technique that our mothers and grandmothers have been using for years, but that has somehow fallen out of favour with younger generations. The brilliant thing is, it soon started creating quite a buzz around the beauty world.

he technique is all about changing the angle of your gaze when coating your lashes with mascara. These days, we’re taught to look straight ahead in the mirror, or up-in-the-air. However, our mothers and grandmothers would look down instead. This technique allowed them to coat the full length of lashes without getting a speck of mascara on the lower part of the brow—which we all know is the real battle. The easiest way to do this is with a handheld mirror positioned just below the chin. This will allow your lashes to be in full view while you sweep the wand from base to tip.
