Jumping into a Maserati is like putting on a pair of Christian Louboutins. Except you can drive it. Fast. I got to drive no less than five of the luxury cars one rainy morning and can quite honestly say that not even the heavy rain could dampen the spirit of the car.
In fact, they drive so well in the wet you can still feel them stick to the roads around corners, so you feel completely safe.
My thing is usually interiors (but let’s be honest, the exterior of these cars is pretty good too), and Maserati really steps things up a notch.
The camel coloured leather seats are the pick of the crop. There’s something about the colour that is just retro grand enough to be cool today. If like to stand out a bit more, the Levante – Maserati’s SUV for the power mum doing the school run – comes in a cherry red, which is actually better looking than it sounds.
All the cars are quite low to the road (except the Levante) and some are more compact than others, depending on how sporty you go, but they are all luxe inside. I wouldn’t recommend the sports cars for families – getting in and out would be a daily drag with young kids. But if you’ve got a convertible, you can just hop in from the top and all will be well. That’s what I plan to do, natch.
The Levante is a lovely drive – smooth, quiet and powerful. You feel completely confident on the road because it does what you tell it do, with fantastic handling and steering, and it has enough space for a family of five.
