Matthew Perry Is Writing A Candid Memoir About His Time On ‘Friends’ And Battle With Addiction

It's set to be 'unflinchingly honest.'

It’s been 17 years since the last episode of Friends aired and six months since the highly-anticipated reunion episode, but it’s certainly not the last we’ll be seeing of the beloved cast.

Set to be released in roughly a year’s time, the memoir will document the actors struggles with addiction along with rare insights about his time filming Friends from 1994-2004.

According to Deadlinethe book “is set to be a candid and self-aware book told with his trademark humour, with Perry vividly detailing his lifelong battle with the disease and what fuelled it despite seemingly having it all.”

“Perry’s memoir, the first from a cast member of Friends, is unflinchingly honest, dishy, and hilarious: this is the book that Friends fans have been waiting for but will also shed a powerful light for anyone who is in their own battle for themselves or a loved one,” the release continued

Megan Lynch, publisher of Flatiron Books, shared her thoughts on the project, saying:

“We need humour, we need catharsis, and we need to agree on something – and Matthew’s extraordinary story, told in his inimitable voice, is that thing.

The book deal came at a seven figure cost and will be published under Flatiron books — an imprint of the publishing house, Macmillan.

Perry has spoken candidly about his struggles with addiction in previous interviews, most notably with the BBC.

“From an outsider’s perspective, it would seem like I had it all. It was actually a very lonely time for me because I was suffering from alcoholism. I don’t remember three years of it, I was a little out of it at the time — somewhere between seasons three and six.”

It is hoped that this book will not only be of interest to fans of the show, but to anyone struggling with their own demons, whatever they may be.
