Meghan Markle’s father has finally opened up about his actress daughter’s engagement to Prince Harry, saying he is “delighted” about the upcoming royal wedding.
Over the weekend, Thomas Markle was asked about the engagement by a woman who bumped into him in Rosarito, Mexico, where he lives.
The Sun obtained a video of the exchange, in which Thomas says: “I think it’s wonderful. I’m very delighted.”
“I think they’re [a] very good match,” he continued. “I’m very happy for them, Meghan and Harry. I love my daughter very much—Harry’s a gentleman.”
In her first joint interview with Prince Harry, Meghan revealed that Harry was yet to meet her father but that the pair had spoken several times.
“I’m sure the onset, both my parents and my close friends were concerned, because we got very quickly swept up in a media storm that, as I shared, was not part of my life before that, but they also had never seen me so happy,” the Suits actress told the BBC.
“And I think also once my friends – excuse me, were able to – to really meet Harry, and my mum, who we’ve spent a lot of time with, who is so much fun.”
“Her mum’s amazing,” Harry added.
It’s been rumoured that Meghan is considering having her mother walk her down the aisle, however, today her half-sister Samantha Markle said Thomas will definitely be doing the honour.
“Any rumour to the contrary is… My favourite new word is becoming ‘oh rubbish,'” Samantha told US tv show The Wright Stuff.
