Kate Middleton And Meghan Markle Made The Same Pact As Diana And Fergie

Their differing fashion sense is no coincidence

Since joining the royal family, everything Meghan Markle wears is scrutinised, talked about and coveted. In fact, when the Duchess of Sussex was Down Under, the Meghan Effect was so extreme, it caused multiple Australian designers’ websites to crash for the first time ever.

Despite both Meghan and Kate Middleton holding their own in the style stakes, Meghan’s fashion sense is easily identifiable as being different to her sister-in-law’s: Meghan often opts for pants over dresses, wears her hair in messy buns and wears darker, more muted colours, whereas Kate’s style is traditionally more feminine and she is usually photographed wearing a bright coloured dress with her hair in perfect waves.

As it turns out, the stark contrast between the two duchesses is completely on purpose – and has been done before by none other than Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson. While Diana became known for her glamorous and flattering fashion sense during her marriage to Prince Charles, Fergie set herself apart by wearing more scandalous (by royal standards) clothing.

Meghan and her stylist/best friend Jessica Mulroney have reportedly made a “conscious effort” to define a style for Meghan that was separate from Kate’s, so they would “not be accused of copying Kate’s style,” a source told Elle.

However, the pair has “certainly kept an eye on Kate’s style because she hasn’t put a foot wrong and is a great role model.”

Kate has even been involved with helping Meghan pick designers and ensure her looks adhere to royal protocol. “Kate has been on hand to help guide Meghan with advice about certain designers and royal protocol,” the insider added.
