We can ignore those ‘difficult boss’ rumours after the loss of one assistant, but now that another of Meghan Markle’s personal assistant’s has chosen to resign, people are starting to believe the Duchess of Sussex may just be as demanding as the rumours suggest.
The Sunday Times has reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex interim private secretary, Samantha “The Panther” Cohen, has absolutely no intention of working with the pair on a permanent basis and “has let it be known that she intends to leave after Meghan’s baby is born next spring.”
News of Cohen’s departure comes amid rumours that Markle is a “difficult” boss.
50-year-old Cohen is Australian and has worked for the royal family as Queen Elizabeths II’s assistant private secretary and communications secretary for 17 years. Samantha had chosen to resign from that post earlier this year but was quickly persuaded to work with Prince Harry and Meghan on a temporary basis.
According to The Sunday Times, Cohen was only supposed to stay for six months, although Meghan had hoped to keep her on permanently.
A source told The Sunday Times, “Sam will be a huge loss. Going forward, Meghan might need someone cut from a slightly different cloth to traditional courtiers, who is not a career civil servant or royal insider.”
This is the second of Markle’s personal assistant’s to quit in less than a month. Melissa Touabti was the Duke and Duchess of Sussex personal assistant for just six months before The Sunday Times reported she quit her post due to Meghan’s “difficult” behaviour.
Just like her supposed feud with Kate Middleton, we’ll probably never know if there’s any truth to the unsavoury gossip, but our eyebrows are slightly raised.
