Meghan Markle Makes A Sartorial Tribute To Queen Elizabeth At State Funeral

Paying homage to the late monarch.

Meghan Markle wore a simple yet elegant dress to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, yet sported one accessory some are believing to be a tribute to the late monarch.

Spotted through tinted car windows, Meghan could be seen sporting a black, saucer-style tilted hat and a matching ensemble. But it was when she exited the vehicle and was seen walking into the church that her entire outfit was visible.

Wearing a black dress that finished just below knee-level, the ensemble included a built-in cape that also finishes at mid-level. She paired the outfit with black tights and a sleek set of pointed heels, while carrying a small, matching purse. In homage to the late Queen, some are speculating that Meghan’s decision to wear a dress with a cape could be seen as a tribute to Her Majesty’s royal fur-lined cape that she often wore in royal photography and at official events before her death.

Fans have already noticed that the Duchess is sporting a chic set of pearl earrings, which are likely in commemoration of their mourning. A go-to for royals, pearls are the accessory du jour for the sombre service as they are considered perfectly understated and respectful.

To keep in the tradition of an understated outfit, Meghan kept her hair in a sleek, low up-do and kept her makeup minimal except for a dark, smokey eye.

Of course, her sister-in-law Kate Middleton also arrived at the service at the same time as the Duchess of Sussex. Kate, who also donned a titled headpiece, wore a brooch that was a favourite of the late Queen.

Queen Elizabeth’s state funeral was attended by royals, political leaders, and dignitaries who travelled to pay their respects to Britain’s longest-reining monarch. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese invited a delegation of 12 Australians to attend alongside him, including current Australian of the Year Dylan Alcott.
