Melbourne Woman Raped And Murdered In Mozambique

The 20-year-old had expressed concern over the 'dangerous' destination just days before her death

A Melbourne woman has been found dead in a Mozambique toilet block after being allegedly raped and murdered.

Elly Rose Warren, 20, was visiting the “dangerous” beachside town on a diving holiday and was reportedly returning to her backpackers accommodation from a party when she was reportedly snatched.

Staff at the Wuyani Pariango backpackers say she never returned to her room after dropping off her bags, reports the Daily Mail.

Her devastated father, Paul Warren, has revealed that he spoke to his daughter just days before and she expressed concern over heading to the “dangerous” destination.

“She even told me ‘it’s dangerous, Dad, I don’t know if I should be going over there’,” he told AAP through tears.

“And I said to her, ‘Yes, it is very dangerous.’”

“I just hope they catch the bastards,” he added. “They’ve got to do something.”

Ms Warren’s sister, Kristy Warren, took to Facebook to share the heartbreaking news.

“My sister was in Africa whilst my mum got a phone call from one of the backpackers saying to her that her daughter has been murdered,” she wrote.

“As I heard that my heart dropped. It is a parents nightmare to get a phone call like this.

“Elly was always ambitious and had so many goals to go traveling, but maybe she had too many,” she added.

“Even [though] we had so many fights rest in peace u angel I will always love you Elly.”

Details surrounding her death remain unclear with conflicting reports surrounding the location of where her body was found.

“People said a white lady was found on the beach and then police come,” a guest house owner tells The Age.

Investigations are currently taking place into the death and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says it is providing assistance to the family.

Warren’s family are planning to fly to Mozambique to bring home her body.
