Many have shared images of the street art on social media but its creator is yet to be publicly identified.
Streep released a statement earlier this week in response to Rose McGowan, who called her out for her involvement in the campaign for women to wear black on the Golden Globes red carpet in silent protest against sexual harassment.
"Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black @goldenglobes in a silent protest,” she wrote in a since deleted Tweet. “YOUR SILENCE is THE problem. You'll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real chance. I despise your hypocrisy. Maybe you should all wear Marchesa."
Streep said she "wasn't deliberately silent" about the movie mogul’s treatment of women and that she “didn’t know”.
"It hurt to be attacked by Rose McGowan in banner headlines this weekend, but I want to let her know I did not know about Weinstein's crimes, not in the 90s when he attacked her, or through subsequent decades.”

"I wasn't deliberately silent. I didn't know. I don't tacitly approve of rape. I didn't know. I don't like young women being assaulted. I didn't know this was happening."
After the initial allegations against Weinstein were made public in October, Streep said in a statement: "Harvey supported the work fiercely, was exasperating but respectful with me in our working relationship, and with many others with whom he worked professionally. I did not know about his having meetings in his hotel room, his bathroom, or other inappropriate, coercive acts. The behaviour is inexcusable, but the abuse of power familiar. Each brave voice that is raised, heard and credited by our watchdog media will ultimately change the game."
Plenty of people have responded to the posters online, questioning why Streep is being targeted instead of the many men who knew about Weinstein's alleged sexual harassment and did nothing.
