Since July, Michelle Obama's new podcast The Michelle Obama Podcast, has topped charts on Spotify. With the very first episode featuring husband and former President of the United States Barack Obama, the series is set to explore relationships.
To accompany her podcast series, Michelle has curated a playlist on Spotify's Higher Ground hub, which features an array of artists including Beyoncé, Chloe x Halle, Teyana Taylor, Ari Lennox, and Jhené Aiko. With the new playlist, Michelle wants to use the opportunity to promote and lift up female artists of colour.
According to People, Michelle revealed in a statement, "Excited to share with you a new Spotify playlist inspired by the first season of my new podcast. It's filled with incredible new artists and a whole lot of #BlackGirlMagic. I hope you'll give it a listen and follow some of these terrific musicians."
Future guests on the podcast will include Michelle's mother, Marian, and her brother, Craig Robinson. Conan O’Brien, Valerie Jarrett, and Dr. Sharon Malone are also set to make appearances on the podcast.
During her latest episode, Michelle opened up about her ongoing journey with depression, saying: "I have to say that waking up to the news, waking up to how this administration has or has not responded, waking up to yet another story of a Black man or a Black person somehow being dehumanised, or hurt or killed, or falsely accused of something, it is exhausting. And it has led to a weight that I haven’t felt in my life."
