Ciao Milano! Boy are we happy to see you again. After last season’s predominantly digital presentations, we’re overwhelmed with excitement for Milan Fashion Week to make a grand return to the real life runway this season.
Whilst New York and London presented contemporary and avant garde collections from our favourite emerging and established designers from across the pond, Milan is proving to be a lesson in traditionalism and opulence.
It’s a city with a rich history rooted in craftsmanship and couture, with long established methods of design and artisanship constantly on display. Although quite conservative and conventional when compared to the underground creators at NYFW and LFW, Milan Fashion Week continues to reign supreme due to its exquisite design and traditional aesthetic.
Whilst we’re waiting with bated breath to see what will emerge from the ateliers of our favourite luxury houses, continue reading below for the designer’s to know and love ahead of Milan Fashion Week.
Fendi
Fendi finds itself under new guidance this season, with the formidable Kim Jones at the helm as Artistic Director of Womenswear. Although Jones has already presented two collections with the luxury house, Autumn/Winter 2021 couture and prêt-à-porter, we’re excited to see what Jones presents for the labels Spring/Summer 2022 collection.
Versace
After a show stopping ‘Versacepolis’ themed Spring/Summer 2021 collection, and a star studded Autumn/Winter 2021 digital presentation, we have no doubts that Donatella will indeed deliver an indulgent and highly aesthetic show with nods to their past.
Giorgio Armani
Giorgio Armani may be 87-years-old, but he has no plans on slowing the business down. Quite the contrary. Armani was one of the first luxury houses to opt out of Milan Fashion Week back in February 2020, when the pitfalls of COVID-19 were becoming apparent. Up until Milan Men’s Fashion Week in June, Armani had only showcased collections digitally – a first for the designer. We’re sure he will mark his runway return for womenswear triumphantly.
Max Mara
Max Mara knows how to host a fashion show. Take one look at their idyllic Resort 2022 presentation on the Italian isle of Ischia in the Tyrrhenian Sea and you’ll be instantly transformed into Ian Griffiths’ world. With heritage and tradition at the crux of the brand, we can’t wait to see Max Mara’s new classics and effortless elegance.
Prada
This season, the pradasphere will look a little different. Not only will this collection be the first Raf Simmons and Miuccia Prada presents to an audience, it will be the first time the brand has presented dual shows simultaneously. Taking over Milan and Shanghai, the show, aptly named ‘Synchronic Views’ will transcend time and location for this feat.
Jil Sander
Jil Sander is a pioneer of ‘contemporary chic’, a look that has been emulated time and time again. Under a new guise of husband and wife duo Luke and Lucie Meier, we’re sure the pair will continue to honour Sander’s timeless minimalism and astute professionalism in their latest offering.
