Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer Show Was All About Community Spirit

And Kate Moss’s daughter made her runway debut

On the eve of its Paris Fashion Week presentation, Miu Miu spoke of the collective power and energy of women. “Communities of women have always been integral to the spirit and identity of Miu Miu; their nurturing and support of one another, their pursuit of shared values and goals,” the Italian maison shared in a press statement. “This season, those communities of women are also intrinsic to the show itself.”

As such, the setting for the spring/summer 2021 showa custom-built sports stadium complete with white rubber walls and floorshad a virtual audience of high-profile Miu Miu fans cast onto a bank of screens (Elle Fanning and Chloe Sevigny, to name a few). Plus the house invited groups of women to gather together and watch the show digitally.

The clothes, too, borrowed from the sporting arena. There were zippy track jackets, racing striped-trousers, easy jersey knits and kitten-heeled tennis shoes. Plaid skirts, preppy blazers and polo shirts spoke of school uniforms, and a sugary palette underscored the collection’s youthful appeal (Lila Moss, 18-year-old daughter of supermodel Kate, notably opened the show).

Yet jewel-encrusted evening dresses and ’50s-inspired full skirts also brought a grown-up glamour. This wasn’t fashion for the young, but rather, fashion for the young at heartand fashion for the communities of women Miu Miu is built on.
