The Most Outrageous Accessories From The Moschino Pre-Fall 2020 Show

We're talking head-toppling hats and meme-worthy backpacks galore - by Danielle Fowler
  • 11 Dec 2019

Just last week, we warned the fashion set not to fork out on the teensy-weensy Jacquemus 'Le Sac Chiquito' with clues to suggest that supersized accessories are set to return next year.

It seems Jeremy Scott put his investigative hat on too, as the latest Moschino line is yet further evidence that big bag energy is back for 2020.

A sartorial love letter to the Big Apple, the creative director's first New York show took place in Brooklyn's Transit Museum with commuter seats posing as the front row.

But the accessories on display would certainly bug city-goers crowd-shuffling to work with blown-up bumbags and backpacks overshadowing models.

Need to catch up?

These are the most outrageous accessories which graced (read: dominated) the Moschino Pre-Fall 2020 runway.

Blown-up bumbags

It's only fitting that the man who gifted the world telly-dinner clutch bags, laundry detergent backpacks and trick-or-treat shoppers push the boundaries on the accessories front yet again.

In a bid to remind the fashion pack once more that itsy-bitsy handbags are so last season, models barged down the runway (erm, subway) with mutated bum bags of gigantic proportions.

It goes without saying that these are obviously too big to simply carry loose change around your waist so the love-to-hate-it accessory played the role of a shopper in the clutches of models.

Elizabeth Hurley style safety pins

A comeback Elizabeth Hurley is sure to fangirl over, supersized safety pins nipped slinky party dresses together - an homage to the designer's fashion school days, perhaps?

Upon closer inspection, the staple hold-your-clothes-together tool was also utilised as a mega clutch.

Meme-worthy backpacks

Just in case Scott's message that accessories will be bigger and better than ever next year, a gigantic backpack shoved past show attendees to a wave of iPhones as though to cry: "Ditch your tiny accessories, people!"

After shouting about supersized accessories being back and what have you, the backpack proved the stuff of every meme-maker's dreams.

Non-commuter-friendly hats

Carry-it-like-a-shopper bumbags, layers-upon-layers of gold jewellery and club-ready shell suits paid homage to the buzzy streets of Harlem.

But it was the comically gigantic headgear that really stole a spot on our Instagram feed.

In case you missed it, one logo-emblazoned snapback modelled Joan Smalls who donned double denim, clunky chains and a half-slouched puffer jacket.

To finish the look? A lighter fit for firing up a thousand candles.

Chill-proof puffer jackets

Thankfully not a trend set to infiltrate the streets of Sydney anytime soon, Moschino swaddled its models in quilts disguised as puffer jackets.

No doubt one way to tackle the Northern Hemisphere's big chill.

The latest Moschino collection only further confirms speculation that big will be fashion's go-to buzzword next season.

Last week for instance, a rare fashion phenomenon was spotted lurking beneath New York City.

An abnormally large Opening Ceremony tote left one commuter struggling to battle her way through a subway turnstile due to its large-scale proportions.

Thankfully, Nicolas Heller, also known as 'the unofficial talent scout of New York City', was on hand to document the mysterious occurance and shared the now-viral clip via Instagram.

Are accessories getting bigger or are we just getting smaller?

Sending a deeply philosophical question into the social media-verse, the caption simply reads: "Are accessories getting bigger or are we just getting smaller?" Certainly one to think about, as our accessories game is shifting to bolder things.

For autumn/winter 2019, Simon Porte Jacquemus zapped the brand's iconic 'Le Sac Chiquito' handbag under a microscopic lens - sending models down the runway with 10cm x 8cm handbags on the crooks of their fingers.

The French designer has since jumped to the other end of the spectrum, as a slouchy shoulder bag of humungous proportions took to the lavender fields of Provence for spring/summer 2020.

Finally, an accessory that won't look out of place paired with the French label's iconic 'La Bomba' straw hat...

So get excited, as we may finally be able to fit more than just a lipstick into our handbags next season.
