Mother-Of-Three Dies In Horror Lift Accident At Spanish Hospital

"We still can’t believe what’s happened"

Spanish mother Rocío Cortés Núñez suffered a tragic fate soon after the joy of given birth to her third child.

According to the BBC, 25-year-old Ms Núñez gave birth to a daughter by Caesarian section in Seville’s Our Lady of Valme hospital. She was then reportedly transported on a trolley into a lift on her way to the maternity ward to recover.

It is alleged the lift started moving upwards and the woman was crushed. Firefighters were unable to save the mother from the horror accident.

Ms Núñez’s husband, José Gaspar, spoke out about the devastating incident in an interview with ABC Sevilla. 

“This can’t be so. Today it was Rocío but tomorrow it could be someone else,” he said.

“It’s incredible. We still can’t believe what’s happened. Something has to happen. This cannot go unpunished,” brother-in-law David Gaspar added. 

Health Minister of the Spanish region of Andalusia Marina Alvarez called the ordeal a “rapid, unusual and tragic accident,” news.com.au reports.

She explained that the lift had complied with regulations when it was checked on August 12.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.

Ms Núñez is survived by her newborn and two other children, aged four and five.
