Mother of Sanaya Sahib Appears In Court Charged With Murder

The mother accused of killing her 14-month-old Sanaya Sahib, and dumping her body, has appeared in court for the first time.

Sofina Nikat, 22, appeared via video link, charged with the murder of her daughter after her body was found in Darebin Creek in Melbourne’s northeast on April 10.

Nikat has sparked a desperate search after she claimed her daughter had been snatched by a man, whom she described as African appearance, barefoot and reeking of alcohol.

CCTV footage however showed the woman calmly walking out of the park with an empty pram, reports News Corp.

  

On April 12, Nikat was charged with the baby’s death and later made a full admission to police.

She was due to appear in court the following day however doctors deemed her medically unstable to appear, reports the Herald Sun

The case has again been adjourned until August 31 while prosecutors await the results from pathology tests.
