What Is My Policeman About?
Roberts' original novel, released in 2012, tells the story of Tom, a gay policeman living in Brighton, England, in the 1950s, who weds schoolteacher Marion. Years later, Tom strikes up a romance with a man named Patrick, a museum curator, and due to the constraints of the era, Marion and Patrick must secretly share him, "until one of them breaks and three lives are destroyed."
Deadline reports that the adaptation will begin in the 1990s, with an encounter between the elderly Tom and Patrick forcing them to look back on their love affair 40 years prior.
"The arrival of elderly invalid Patrick into Marion and Tom’s home triggers the exploration of seismic events from 40 years previous: the passionate relationship between Tom and Patrick at a time when homosexuality was illegal," reads the description.
Amazon has also revealed that Linus Roache, Gina McKee and Rupert Everett will appear as the older version of Styles, Corrin and Dawson respectively.
