Netflix’s ‘Carmel’ Investigates The Mysterious Murder Of Socialite María Marta

What really happened?

A new Netflix miniseries is set to have us on the edge of our seats, taking a deep dive into the unsolved murder of Argentinian socialite María Marta.

Looking into the theories surrounding the mysterious 2002 death, Carmel: Who Killed Maria Marta will see accounts from experts, friends, family and witnesses, all sharing their ties to the case.

María Marta was originally discovered by her husband, Carlos Carrascosa, in the bathtub of their mansion—situated in the luxury gated community Carmel. She was 50 years-old.

Her death was originally ruled as an accident, with many presuming that she had fallen and hit her head. It wasn’t until an autopsy that five bullet wounds were discovered in her head.

Initially, there weren’t any suspects, but Belsunce’s step brother urged police to investigate further which is when focus shifted to Carrascosa.

The stockbroker was looked into by detectives, however, according to a DNA analysis, he did not match any of the blood samples found at the crime scene.

Hidden notes, sketchy business deals and obvious signs of a cover-up led authorities to believe a drug cartel could be at hand, however, it isn’t clear how the wealthy family were involved and no one has ever been charged with her death.

The four part series will premiere on Netflix on November 5 and is mostly in Spanish, with English subtitles.
