Netflix’s ‘Firefly Lane’ Is Said To Be A Perfect Mix Of ‘Sweet Magnolias’ And ‘This Is Us’

Margarita night, anyone?

If you love the wholesome, small town female friendships of Sweet Magnolias but live for the realistic familial timelines of This Is Us, then Netflix’s latest TV series should be on your must-watch list.

Introducing Firefly Lane.

Based on the popular book of the same name, the series follows two best friends who, like us, are juggling their family life, careers—and even love triangles. From the inception of their partnership as children to their present day adult lives, Firefly Lane chronicles the ups and downs that are just a part of, well, life.

With moments that pull at your heartstrings, the 10-episode Netflix series is set to become the next binge-watchable story that offers a sense of wholesomeness during a year that feels awfully like the last.

What Is The Plot Of Firefly Lane?

Based on Kristen Hannah’s popular novel, Firefly Lane follows childhood best friends, Tully and Kate, who couldn’t be more different. While Tully is the brash and bold personality that’s hard to ignore, Kate is her shy counterpart that typically goes unnoticed. When a tragedy brings the two together, they quickly become inseparable.

Much like the format of This Is Us, the story follows their 30-year journey of friendship—from their heartbreaks to their triumphs. Despite one choosing a life of marriage and motherhood and the other opting for wealth and fame, the pair share an unbreakable bond until they face the ultimate test.

But don’t take our word for it, check out the trailer below to see for yourself.

Who Is Cast In Firefly Lane?

Firefly Lane is far from short on star power. Leading the group is Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy, Suits) as vivacious Tully and Sarah Chalke (ScrubsHow I Met Your Mother) as the shy Kate.

And the supporting cast is equally excellent, featuring honorary Australian Ben Lawson (Bombshell, No Strings Attached) as Ryan, Jon-Michael Ecker (Narcos) as Max Brody and Patrick Sabongui (The Flash) as Chad Wiley.
