Netflix’s ‘Ginny & Georgia’ Is The New-Gen ‘Gilmore Girls’, Only With A 'Dead To Me' Twist

There are *a lot* of similarities - by Chelsea Tromans

Netflix’s ‘Ginny & Georgia’ Is The New-Gen ‘Gilmore Girls’, Only With A 'Dead To Me' Twist

When your favourite TV series ends, it leaves a void in your life that you’re desperate to fill with another equally-addictive show.

Well, for all those still desperately trying to find ‘The One’ that will replace their beloved Gilmore Girls, you may be in luck. Netflix just announced a new series, Ginny & Georgia, which has such a familiar-sounding plot that it may as well be called Lorelei & Rory.

So what’s it about? A mother and daughter duo who move to the quaint little town of New England to settle down after years on the run. Ginny, the daughter (played by Antonia Gentry), is an awkward 15-years-old who’s dealing with a new prestigious school and complicated love interests. Georgia, the 30-year-old mum (played by Brianne Howey), has a troubled past that may just mess up her chances of a new beginning.
Sounds similar, right?

They even have a ‘Luke’—restaurateur Raymond who can’t help but notice when Georgia moves to town.

There are some notable differences though. Ginny has a younger sibling, Austin; rumour has it the characters are more into kombucha than coffee; and expect more diversity in the cast and storylines (Ginny is biracial and Sara Waisglass, who plays one of their neighbours, develops a crush on Georgia).

It has the essence of Gilmore Girls, but with a turn-of-the-21st-century upgrade. Basically, the series won't shy away from important topics like racism and mental health.

Keen to watch it? Ginny & Georgia officially premieres on February 24 on Netflix.
