What Is The Plot Of The Queen's Gambit?
A limited-series, The Queen's Gambit is a seven-episode series adaptation of a novel by Walter Trevis. Based in the late 1950s to early ’60s, the series follows the adolescent life of Beth Harmon starting with her time in an orphanage, where she developed a drug addiction and is taught chess by a janitor who helps unlock her genius and hidden talent.
Over time, Beth must control her addiction while pursuing her dream of becoming a chess grandmaster. She enters tournament after tournament, befuddling the chess community—almost completely made up of men—as she fights her way to the top.
Alongside the impressive chess matches, Beth builds a tender relationship with her adoptive mother, Mrs. Alma Wheatley, which is both heartening and heartbreaking over the course of seven episodes.
