When we caught up with local designer Rebecca Vallance to talk about the chic capsule collection she’s just launched at Net-A-Porter, we couldn’t help but ask about her celebrity fans – namely the headline-grabbing dress she designed for Sylvia Jeffreys’ wedding to Peter Stefanovic last month.
“The entire process was so much fun,” says Vallance. “From the original design conception through to watching Sylvia walk down the aisle, it was all a great experience.”
“The dress took well over 200 hours to make over a 6 month period,” she adds. “When the alterations were done after each fitting, the intricate French lace needed to be removed and then sewn back on afterwards. We definitely spent a lot of quality time together – it was a labour of love!”
Her advice for brides commissioning a custom dress? “You need to be very familiar with your chosen designer’s aesthetic. You also need to have a good idea of what it is you’re looking for!”
