If you love binging on films and documentaries but are too stingy to chip into your house’s Netflix or Stan account, we have a solution.

Online streaming service Kanopy has launched in Australia with 30,000 titles available. And it’s free.

You’ll find a great selection of independent gems (hello Brooklyn, Carol, Ex Machina and Frances Ha), classics such as Breakfast At Tiffany’s, and documentaries like the excellent I Am Not Your Negro. There’s no shortage of laughs too with Miss Congeniality, Bridesmaids and Mean Girls.

Tthe site was founded by Sydney Olivia Humphrey as a university-only service and then expanded into American public libraries, The Sydney Morning Herald reports. And now, libraries in Melbourne, Western Australia and eventually New South Wales will offer Kanopy to members. The downside for now? Many libraries will place a cap on how many movies a month you can watch a month, but this could change too.
