Count Felix of Monpezat, born Prince Felix of Denmark, is the younger of the two sons of Prince Joachim and his former wife, Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg.

You might recognise the 23-year-old as the younger sibling of Australian fashion week-regular, Count Nikolai โ€“ who at 25, is the eldest of all Queen Margrethe IIโ€™s grandchildren. But his name might also feel familiar after news of his titles being stipped made headlines around the world.

The Danish royal family might have avoided the level of controversy courted by their Norwegian neighbours, but that doesnโ€™t mean theyโ€™ve been completely spared from scandal. Case in point the young brothers who were stripped of their princely titles in the royal equivalent of cost-savings disguised as a corporate restructure.

The decision to remove the royal titles began as a rumour relating to the alleged tension within the family, particularly between eldest son then-Crown Prince Frederik and his brother Prince Joachim. But in 2022, that speculation became reality when Queen Margarethe announced her intention to follow-through.

At the time she claimed the decision would unburden the brothers, allowing them โ€œto shape their own lives to a much greater extent without being limited byโ€ their title.

Responding to the controversial call, Prince Joachim told a local publication: โ€œMy children are sad.โ€

โ€œMy kids donโ€™t know which leg to stand on, what they should believe. Why should their identity be removed? Why must they be punished in that way?โ€

Three years on from the decision that rocked the Danish royal family, we take a look at how the decision panned out for Count Felix.

Count Felix may still be seventh in line to the Danish royal throne, but that hasnโ€™t exactly translated into an easy path to adulthood. That being said, the 23-year-old hasnโ€™t let his public demotion get him down.

After being educated in ร˜sterbro like his father, brother and uncle before him, Count Felix tried his hand at a career in the military before focusing his attention on a degree in International Shipping and Trade at Copenhagen Business School in 2022.

Like his older brother Nikolai, whose own life away from royal duties has allowed him to follow more glamorous pursuits, Count Felix has also found success as a model.

Before the then-prince had turned 20, he counted campaigns with Georg Jensen and appearances on Burberry runways as just some of his industry achievements. Since signing with Scoop modelling agency, heโ€™s gone on to work with major brands like Dior, and has graced the cover of several high-profile magazines.

Having your princely titles removed has to come with some perk, right? Perhaps it could be said that getting to date whomever you choose (without the pressure of courtly approval) is one of them.

While Count Felix appears to be single at the moment, he was, until recently, dating Chilean-Danish actress Mie Sofia Elers, before parting ways earlier this year.

However, while the burden might be a freeing experience for the young Count, it doesnโ€™t necessarily mean he avoids the scrutiny of public opinion โ€“ and that goes for his chosen partners, too.

Following their breakup, Elers spoke with B.T about the negative attention she received during their time together. โ€œReceiving hate can be ignored to a certain extent, but harassment, photo manipulation and spreading malicious lies are far more harmful,โ€ she said.

Adding that, at its peak, the harassment had โ€œalso spread to platforms like YouTube. They use AI and Photoshop to alter my photos and create fake profiles to contact people. They even target my family with hateful content.โ€
