In 2015, 17-year-old Pearl Moen hid behind a bush as she watched a young couple on a date in a park in Austin, Texas. When the man left to use the bathroom she stabbed the woman 21 times and left her for dead.
The woman survived the horrific attack, but what police found in Moen’s diary was extremely disturbing.
Outlining what she had done in her diary, with an entry dated November 17, 2015, the teen described the horrific attack as “a high like no other”.
The full post, as published by CBS reads:
I stabbed an innocent woman to death earlier today – technically yesterday since it’s 1 a.m. It was absolutely fantastic. Murder gives me a high unlike any other. It feels like this crisp unreality, flashing and sparkling, adrenaline and shock, fight or flight mode. How do I even go about describing it. The whole thing was unreal. I’m so proud of myself. I stabbed her like 20 times. Maybe more. I wasn’t counting. She screamed and grabbed at me, saying, ‘What the f–k?! Help. Leave.’ … For now, I should explain why. Other than the fact that I’m a homicidal psychopath. I have a deep hatred towards people right now. … Yesterday I lost my other gold ring I’ve worn all my life on a chain around my neck as it was ripped off by a girl I was murdering. Fate is weird.
According to The Washington Post there were also a number of graphic drawings that accompanied the entry.
It was months before Moen was finally arrested in February 2016, after her mother found the disturbing diary entry as well as her knife collection and called police.
Moen was booked at the Travis County Jail on a $1 million bond and remained there until Friday’s court appearance where she pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempted murder.
