‘Younger’ Star Nico Tortorella Opens Up About Partner Bethany Meyers’ Abortion

"It’s a painful [process], emotionally, physically, and spiritually"

In a new memoir, Younger star Nico Tortorella opens up about their journey to identify as non-binary and the painful experience of helping their partner, Twilight star Bethany Meyers (who also prefers non-binary pronouns) through an abortion.

In Space Between: Explorations of Love, Sex, and Fluidity, Tortorella writes that after a year without speaking to each other (the pair had an on-and-off polyamorous relationship for a decade before marrying last year), Meyers called and said, “Baby, I’m pregnant.”

“Everything that happened next is sort of a blur,” writes Tortorella, who booked a flight to see Meyers immediately after hearing the news. “The baby wasn’t mine, obviously, but it didn’t matter. After deep consideration, Bethany knew they couldn’t keep the baby. I went to the doctor’s office with them the day I landed.”

“I had dealt with a partner’s abortion firsthand a number of years before and was all too familiar with the process. It’s a painful one, emotionally, physically, and spiritually,” Tortorella continues, before revealing that Meyers decided to have “an at-home medical abortion.”

The difficult situation helped to bring the couple back together and made them realise their love was forever. “It had been years since we were this intimate,” Tortorella wrote. “It solidified our forever quality – that no matter what had happened in our separate individual lives, no matter what had transpired in the time lost, no matter how much we did or didn’t talk, we showed up. We honoured. We celebrated. We were family, forever.”
