Nicole Kidman knows this feeling all too well and was reportedly in tears at a Golden Globes event in Los Angeles. According to US Weekly, the Big Little Lies star requested to stop all red carpet interviews, and said “I’m so sorry. I’m so distracted right now with everything that’s happening in Australia.”

The actress had just discovered that one of her properties, located in the Southern Highlands region of NSW, had come under threat from the fires, and was seen crying as she entered the event.

A representative for Kidman and her husband Keith Urban confirmed to People, that despite the couple’s property being situated in a high-threat area, their home is still safe at the minute and Kidman and Urban will continue to monitor the situation.

“[Kidman and Urban’s] house is not on fire. It is under threat, so they are keeping a close eye on it,” the source confirmed.

The news comes one day after Kidman announced that she, along with her husband, would be donating $500,000, with a callout to each state’s Rural Fire Service. The couple aren’t the only high-profile celebrities using their platform to raise awareness of the devastating conditions. P!nk also pledged $500,000 and Australian comedian Celeste Barber has raised over $40 million through her extraordinary Facebook fundraiser.

The effects of the Australian bushfires have been so far-reaching that many celebrities at this year’s Golden Globes used the internationally televised event to raise awareness. In his absence, Russell Crowe asked Jennifer Aniston to deliver his acceptance speech on his behalf, stating, “Make no mistake, the tragedy unfolding in Australia is climate change based.”

Ellen DeGeneres also used her acceptance speech for her Carol Burnett Award to express her condolences to the many animals who have lost their lives. “My heart goes out to everyone in Australia, for all the animals you’ve lost,” she told the crowd.

There are still 136 fires burning across NSW after a horrendous weekend of raging bushfires.
