Best Picture mix-up aside, one of the biggest questions to emerge from the Oscars was all about Nicole Kidman. Specifically, why she seemed completely unable to clap properly:
But all has now been revealed. On the Kyle and Jackie O show this morning, Nicole Kidman finally addressed her questionable clapping style. Turns out, a hefty diamond ring was to blame.
“It was really awkward,” she says. “I was like, ‘I wanna clap, I don’t wanna not be clapping,’ that’d be worse, right? Like, ‘why isn’t Nicole clapping?’”
“So therefore I’m clapping but it was really difficult because I had a huge ring on that was not mine – but it was absolutely gorgeous – and I was terrified of damaging it.”
The ring was a whopping Harry Winston cluster pear-shaped diamond set in platinum, according to Forbes, who reports that Nicole wore 119 carats worth of Harry Winston diamonds on the night.
