Lana Condor’s platform shoes were one of the main characters in To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before – and now, the actress has revealed the backstory behind her character’s chic styling.

“The funny thing is, Lara Jean wears these big platforms pretty much throughout the whole movie. I love those platforms,” Condor said at Vulture Festival in Los Angeles. “But the reason we had them is because I don’t think the producers realised how much Noah is taller than me.”

Ah, classic Noah Centineo. It turns out the heartthrob/jokester/giant hid his real height throughout the entire audition process for To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.

Using a subtle squatting technique, Centineo fooled all the Hollywood bigwigs involved in the casting process into thinking he was much shorter than his actual 1.85 metre height.

“When we auditioned and chemistry read together, at the end of the chemistry read you have to stand next to the person you read with and you have to take a picture to show the producers the height difference,” Condor explained. “When we went into a camera test, after we’d already been cast, I didn’t make it into a frame with him, because he’s that much taller than me. I heard the producers were like, ‘What is happening?’ Later, Noah told me he would stand behind me and scrunch down to make himself look shorter.”

“So those shoes hold a special place in my heart. It’s sweet, that’s how much he wanted the job,” said Condor, who is 1.6 metres tall.

On the bright side, Centineo will never face the same problem as Tom Cruise, who was recently replaced in the Jack Reacher reboot because he’s too short (at 1.7 metres). If only Cruise could have borrowed Condor’s platform shoes…
