This Is How To Get The Olsen Twins’ Natural Waves

We review their dry shampoo

Haven’t kept up to date with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s activities since their Full House days? Let us get you up to speed: not only did they establish their own luxury fashion label, The Row, back in 2006 (winning numerous accolades in the process), they also have a contemporary line under their (identical, obviously) belts: Elizabeth and James (one of them is also married to the former French Prime Minister’s brother, but we digress).

Although Elizabeth and James does clothing, accessories and even watches, we’d say they’re best known for their androgynous scents – the most famous of which are Nirvana Black and White. And, this being the Olsen twins (i.e. queens of undone, I-literally-just-woke-up-like-this cool) these two scents also come in a dry shampoo.

As someone who regularly works the has-she-or-hasn’t-she-brushed-her-hair-today? look myself, a dry shampoo made by the Olsen twins was something I had to try.

I opted for the Nirvana Black, which you can find at Sephora stores (although sadly, not online) for $52 (exorbitant, I know, but bear with me).

Heady, spicy and dominated by notes of sandalwood and violet, Nirvana Black is the antithesis of every other dry shampoo I’ve ever tried, which tend to skew sickly and sweet.

The scent is strong, and long-lasting, so it doubles as hair perfume (one way to justify its price tag?) but more importantly, it doesn’t leave a trace of residue, even in my dark brunette hair.

In fact, it leaves my hair looking shiny and even freshly washed – not matte and dull like so many dry shampoos can. I was so impressed that I went an extra day without washing (should I be admitting that online? Perhaps not).

Rice starch is the key oil-absorbing ingredient of the Nirvana dry shampoo, combined with pro-vitamin B and rose root extract to boost shine and bounce (note: if you like dry shampoos that give grit and texture, this is probably not for you).

All in all, it’s a big win in my books – say what you will about the Olsen twins, they know their dry shampoo.
