In the lead up to The Outnet’s 10th anniversary, we sat down with Fulford to talk all things online shopping, fashion and trends. Discussing everything from how not to buy something online to the Australian brands that Londoners just love, Fulford dishes on everything new season fashion, buying something without seeing it first, and utilising the ever-important wishlist. You can thank her later.
On the trends that are still going
At the moment we’re finding that white and the layering of white on white on white is just gorgeous — or tonal colors. And coming from fashion weeks, those beautiful camel coats. Also neon!
Also, that Edwardian look. All the sort of high collars. I guess the thing about The Outnet is the variety we've got and the price point allows you to dip into of these fashions with a bit of fun, so not necessarily having to pay the full price and taking the risk.
On successfully shopping online
I think the quickest way to shop the site is to filter by size, and I know some people don't really want to just put their size in because they're happy to tailor upwards or downwards, but that is the quickest way with The Outnet because obviously we don't have endless pieces, so you're not going to be disappointed. So, search by size.
And use your wishlist! Put stuff in, shop by brand, the brands you like. So, it's quite a clever way of quickly navigating because there's plenty of great product on the site.
On the Australian brands that just keep on selling
Australian designers resonate so well in the UK, so the Ellery moment was huge for us. Zimmerman is just… well, everyone is dying to get to Zimmerman! Camilla as well works for us. All eyes on Australian brands!
On buying something before you know all the details
With us there are product measurements on site, there's a live chat, you can speak to customer care, if you live somewhere like Australia which will take a few days to get here it's really disappointing if it's not right, so use that information that's on site. If it says the shoe fits true to size — it will. And that's really annoying if you get a pair of shoes and its too tight, so just check measurements.
On pulling off a tricky trend
We were looking at the big shoulders [recently] and wondering how you actually do it in real life. And maybe you'd belt it up, maybe you wouldn't go so exaggerated, maybe everything else would be super sleek. You can have fun and you can have one piece that is a moment [instead of wearing all the trends at once].
