While Netflix confirmed months ago that award-winning actress Olivia Colman would replace Claire Foy on The Crown, there wasn’t a whisper as to who would take on Prince Philip. But now we (almost certainly) know: Paul Bettany is currently in talks for the role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, multiple sources say British actor Bettany is nearing a deal to play Prince Philip in seasons three and four. Bettany is best known for his role in Marvel’s The Avengers, as well as Manhunt: Unabomber, The Da Vinci Code, Wimbledon and A Beautiful Mind.
The Hollywood Reporter contacted both Netflix and Sony Pictures Television Studios, but both declined to comment “as a deal has not officially been closed.”
Fingers crossed.
