In two weeks time, Prince Harry, wife Meghan Markle and their four-month-old son Archie will begin their royal tour of Africa – their first official royal trip since becoming a family of three. Between trips to wildlife conservatories for Harry and working with organisations to promote women’s education, leadership and health for Meghan, perhaps the most important moment (at least for the Duke of Sussex) will be Harry’s journey to Angola.

He will be able to witness firsthand his mother Princess Diana’s legacy in Angola.

Princess Diana Angola Landmines

Back in January 1997, just months before her death, Princess Diana visited the Huambo province to raise awareness of the landmine threat to the local community. While there, she walked through the active minefield and even assisted with detonating a mine. Her trip helped raise global awareness of the issue, and not long after her passing, an international treaty banning landmines was signed.

Harry will visit the same site during his visit, also detonating a mine remotely and meeting with landmine victims and the people who have worked to help clear mines in the area.

Another significant stop will include the orthopaedic centre that Princess Diana also visited. Harry will unveil the recently renovated facility’s new name, which is in honour of his mother.
