Prince Harry And Oprah Have Created A Docuseries On Mental Health, And Yes, It’s Out This Month

The project is their first public and joint appearance since the interview

Mere months after their emotional tell-all interview—that saw the Palace under fire for ignoring Meghan Markle’s extreme mental health concerns—Prince Harry and Oprah are joining forces again in their latest project, a docuseries aiming to eliminate the stigma on mental health.

Aptly named The Me You Can’t See, the docuseries is set to air on AppleTV+ and will feature a plethora of star-studded guests who will share personal insight and experiences on their own struggles to help combat the prejudice surrounding mental wellness.

Serving as an executive producer for the docuseries, it comes as no surprise that the Duke of Sussex is taking part in its advocation, after recently scoring himself his first job post-royal life as the chief impact officer at mental health company BetterUp. Additionally, the upcoming docuseries marks the next stage in Harry’s long-standing work on issues and initiatives regarding mental health, having previously opened up about his own struggles with grief following his mother’s death.

“The dynamic multi-part documentary series will focus on both mental illness and mental wellness, inspiring viewers to have an honest conversation about the challenges each of us faces, and how to equip ourselves with the tools to not simply survive, but to thrive,” reads the show’s announcement post on Instagram.

“This commitment builds on The Duke of Sussex’s long-standing work on issues and initiatives regarding mental health, where he has candidly shared personal experience and advocated for those who silently suffer, empowering them to get the help and support they deserve.”

What Is The Me You Can’t See About?

As per the official description by Archewell, The Me You Can’t See will see Oprah and Prince Harry guiding “honest discussions about mental health and emotional well-being”, as well as opening up about their own personal struggles with mental health.

As for what each episode will entail, the duo will chat with famous faces in entertainment, who will spotlight their personal experiences to help reduce stigma surrounding mental health, in the hope of reaching viewers of all cultures, ages, genders, and socioeconomic statuses. If that wasn’t enough, the series will also offer viewers a look in on various types of mental health treatment with the help of a team of 14 respected experts and organisations.

Speaking to AppleTV+, Oprah also revealed that their goal for the series is to spotlight the importance of honesty to the conversation.

“Now more than ever, there is an immediate need to replace the shame surrounding mental health with wisdom, compassion, and honesty,” she said. “Our series aims to spark that global conversation.”

“We are born into different lives, brought up in different environments, and as a result are exposed to different experiences. But our shared experience is that we are all human,” Prince Harry told the streaming service.

“The majority of us carry some form of unresolved trauma, loss, or grief, which feels—and is—very personal. Yet the last year has shown us that we are all in this together, and my hope is that this series will show there is power in vulnerability, connection in empathy, and strength in honesty.”

Who Is Involved In The Me You Can’t See?

In addition to hosting, Oprah and Harry also serve as the docuseries’ co-creators and executive producers. Joining the dynamic duo, a range of famous faces are set to appear in The Me You Can’t See, including Lady Gaga, Glenn Close, DeMar DeRozan, Langston Galloway, mental health advocate and speaker Zak Williams, Olympic boxer Virginia “Ginny” Fuchs, and celebrity chef Rashad Armstead, among others yet to be announced.

When Can We Watch The Me You Can’t See In Australia?

Thankfully, viewers won’t have to wait too long to catch the docuseries on-screen. The Me You Can’t See is set to premiere on AppleTV+ on May 21, 2021.
